Week 1 The Circle of Life; Plants

Welcome back everyone!
It has been lovely to catch up this week and hear all about our wonderful Easter breaks :) After our well-deserved two week break, we are eager to continue with some super learning this half term!

This week, we have continued with our previous topic; The Circle of Life. We discovered some seeds and made links with our knowledge of life cycles and understood that the seeds would eventually grow just like our caterpillars/ tadpoles. We talked about what the seeds would need to be able to grow into beautiful plants! Towards the end of the week, we also revisited our learning of colour mixing. We explored the three primary colours and how we could mix some together to create another colour. From this, we painted some gorgeous flowers – just like some of the flowers at the front of our school.

In our phonics learning this week, we have got stuck in with learning some Set 2 sounds; ay, may I play and ee, what can you see? We love the challenge of a new sound and we have enjoyed practising our writing of these sounds in our sensory trays and with chalk outside.

We have also been introduced to a new number tool in our maths learning this week; Rekenrek. The tool helps us to recognise a quantity without the need for counting. We recognised that there are 5 red beads and 5 white beads on each line. When counting numbers to 5, we discussed where to place our finger to push 2 beads or 4 beads along the line, mentioning number facts like 4 is 1 less than 5 or 2 is one and another one – Great job Ducklings!

We have had a great first week back and we are very much looking forward to finally (keep everything crossed) going on our first school trip next week :)
