Spring Term

WEEK 8 & 9

Dove class have been working really hard on their addition and subtraction - using the column method! They have all taken to it really quickly, and have even moved on to missing number problems involving exchanging. I am so proud of them!

In English, the children have been writing 'Lost in the Jungle' stories, based on our current text The Explorer. The stories are really exciting, and we hope to be recording them this week so you can listen to clips on the website - watch this space!

Next week we will be learning more about Mayan mythology and all the gods they worshipped. We will also be looking at links between the 2, 4 and 8 times tables.

WEEK 7

What a busy first week back!

We got our clay models painted this week as they needed the half term to dry out. They are looking splendid, and will be heading home with the children very soon.

We've also made a start on our Muscles and Bones science unit - we have Bony Tony visiting our class, and he is being very helpful showing the children what all the bones look like.

The children are also now fully absorbed in writing their 'lost in the rainforest' stories, I can't wait to read them when they are finished.!

Next week we have World Book Day on Thursday, with lots of lovely book-related activities.

HALF TERM APPROACHES

We have reached the middle of the Spring term - that has passed so quickly!

When we return in a week's time, we will be very busy.

In maths, we will be practicing how to do column addition to solve problems.

In English, we will continue to read The Explorer by Katherine Rundell, and we will draft our own 'lost in the rainforest' stories that we have planned.

We will begin a new science topic of Skeletons and Muscles.

In history we will be finding out all about the Maya who lived in the rainforest a long time ago.

In PE we will be having Fitness sessions on a Tuesday, Yoga on a Wednesday and Dodgeball on a Friday.

I hope you all have a very restful week and look forward to a fresh start next half term!

STUNNING START

We began ournew topic – Into the Jungle – with a special afternoon activity. We were investigating the smells and tastes of the rainforest.

SMELLS OF THE RAINFOREST

We had some cups which contained a variety of different rainforest products and we had to identify them by smell alone! The products were coffee, black pepper, cloves, cinnamon, cola, lime, vanilla, cocoa and ginger.

TASTES OF THE RAINFOREST

We had the opportunity to try lots of different fruits which grow in the rainforest – mango, papaya, coconut, pineapple, lychee and avocado. Just look at the photos to see our reactions!

MAKING CHOCOLATE LOLLYPOPS

The chocolate industry relies on cacao which grows in the rainforest, so we had a fun activity making chocolate treats. We melted milk, white and dark chocolate and designed our own lollies using different toppings. Yummy!
