Materials

In science, we have been learning about the uses and properties of everyday materials. First, we described the feel of materials and categorised different objects around our classroom. We recapped some Year 1 learning, identifying materials too.

We thought about the suitability of materials. Would you use chocolate to make a teapot? Would you use wood for a window? Why are tables not made of paper? We had interesting discussions about why materials are used for certain things.

Our favourite part of this new science learning has been investigating how some solid materials can change shape. We twisted, bent, squashed and stretched playdoh! Next week, we will be investigating other solid objects to see if they can change shape. Our question is: can all objects change shape?  We have already made predictions about this and we are excited to find out if what we think is true.
