Heron class blog - week 9

Week 9

This week we have continued learning about numbers up to 10,000,000. We have been looking at multiplying and dividing values by 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000. We looked at dividing numbers into 2, 4, 5 or 10 sections and used some estimating to answer questions. We also used Place value counters, place value charts and Gattegno charts to play games with numbers.

In English we continued to create our Windrush posters and we also began writing a Windrush inspired poem in groups. This was a little bit interrupted by a visit from Mrs Allwright and Borris - but we weren't complaining. We started writing our Windrush poems after Remembrance assembly because we listened and looked at some WW1 poems and their structures. We then looked at some Windrush poems and photos of Jamaica and London after WW2. We started planning and drafting our poems on big pieces of paper.

In Science we looked at electric symbols and played matching games and in Computing we practised TT Rockstars and did Article quizzes (Crumble kits were still not ready to be used - but they will be available next week).

We wrote a letter to the Imam to say thank you and learnt about key events and changes that happened over the fifties in Topic. In Dance we focused on Street dance this week and in Football we had George teach a lesson with us which is now on a Thursday. We finished off the week with a Reading comprehension and we practised lots of spellings throughout the week.
