Week 6 18.10.21

Week 6
‘This is Me’ – Healthy living

This week we have:
Discovered some of the organs in our body (heart, lungs & brain)
Discussed how we can keep our body healthy by having a balanced diet, exercising and getting a goodnights sleep
Focused on good oral health habits e.g. brushing our teeth at least twice a day and having a balanced diet

We also had a visit this week from Nurse Rosie. She shared with us her job role and how she helps others to take care of their bodies and keep them happy and healthy :) She also shared with us some of her useful equipment e.g. stethoscope and bandages.

Numbers: We’ve continued to explore numbers 1-4 with lots of manipulatives e.g. the numicon, unifix cubes or with 5 or 10 frames. We are practising counting up and down 1-4 and identifying ways of making a number e.g. 3 and 1 make 4 and 2 and 2 make 4!

Phonics: We have begun our phonics learning and we have been introduced to the sounds m, a, s
We enjoy listening carefully to different words and identifying the stretchy sounds mmmmmm or ssssss and the bouncy sound a a a  at the beginning of each word e.g. a a apple / mmmmm monkey / ssss sausages

On Thursday, we discussed Down syndrome Awareness Month and how people across the world run events to raise awareness. We completed an activity which involved us working in pairs and identifying our similarities and differences. We reflected on how we are all equal and that our differences make us special and unique. We understand that children with Down syndrome use actions alongside words to help them communicate so we enjoyed learning a new song ‘5 Little Monkeys Swinging in a tree’ with the support of Makaton signs.

Duckling Class have completed their first half term at school and they have done tremendously well! They have all settled in well and are forming friendships and showing great enthusiasm for learning! We want to thank all the grown-ups in Duckling Class again for your partnership throughout this transition, it is great to have your support :)

We hope you all have a brilliant half term and we look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 1st November!
Miss Booker, Miss Law and Miss Tanner

P.S. We also had a visit from Chaffinch class this week. They were eager to share their wonderful learning with us. There are some lovely photos of this visit on the Chaffinch class page :)
