Week 1

Welcome back Chaffinch Class!

We hope you all had an enjoyable Easter break. This week we have begun our new topic the Great Fire of London.

We started our week with our Stunning Start where children had to look at all the clues to discover information about our topic.

 

English

Children have been exploring why the Great Fire of London was significant, they have begun to learn about the differences in London in 1666

Maths

In maths we started our new unit of work fractions where we have looked and the whole and parts. We are currently learning how to recognise and find a half

Science.

We started our science topic plants this week with an experiment to test what plants need to grow. Children planted sunflower seeds and each seed will miss a key element in needs to grow.

Art

This half term in art children will be architects! They will be learning all about architecture and planning their own piece.

RSHE

Children this week have discussed medicines and understanding how we treat and use medicines safely.

History

In History children have been learning about timelines. They have been looking at significant events in history learning how to read dates and order them.

 

Learning in Chaffinch class next week

English – we carry on learning about the great fire of London in preparation for writing a fire report

Maths – We will be continuing to find ½ and introduce ¼

Science – Our plant topic continues with what’s inside a seed.

PE – Athletics

History – Children will be learning about Samuel Pepys.

RSHE – children will be continuing learning how to be safe around medicines.
