Week 5

Last week in Duckling class we learnt the story 'The Three Little Vikings' by Bethan Woolvin as part of our 'Long, Long Ago' topic. We used symbols to create a whole class story map, made up actions to remember key parts of the text and practised retelling the story.

This week we found a letter in the time machine. It was from a very sad troll explaining how he was tired of being the baddie in stories all the time. The Troll set us a challenge to rewrite our own version of the 'The Three Little Vikings' with a new baddie for a change! The children really enjoyed this and had lots of amazing ideas. They took inspiration from their favourite films and fairytales and decided that the baddie would be named 'Creeper'. Ducklings are now going to turn their story, 'The Three Little Trolls' into a book and have demonstrated their amazing drawing skills when drawing illustrations for our book.

During playful learning this week we have been drawing more story maps, learning how to draw Vikings and their longboats and engaging in summer themed activities. Children have been using playdough and collage materials to create ice cream cones and sundaes. They have also been choosing objects you might pack in a beach bag and then using their phonics to write lists. Ducklings have also been safely enjoying the hot weather out in our wonderful outdoor space.
