Summer Term

SCIENCE - SOIL INVESTIGATION

We did an investigation to find out what soil was made of around Bramber School. We had a Petri dish of soil and a magnifying device to try to identify what particles were in the soil.

We found bugs, twigs, grass, roots, rocks, sand, leaves and even a piece of glitter!

From next week our science learning changes to magnetism - lots of fun things to do there!

SCIENCE - Soil investigation

ART - Stone age cave painting

ENGLISH - WRITING A BIOGRAPHY

We have been researching a very famous fossil hunter called Mary Anning who was born in 1799. We decided we would like to write about her life and send our biographies to the Mary Anning Museum in Lyme Regis. We had to find out what you need to include in a biography first, so we read lots of other life story books as research. Then we used lots of different research materials to find out about Mary Anning, and we could then plan our own writing. We are working hard on drafting these now.

MATHS - FRACTIONS

In maths we have started investigating unit fractions. We have worked practically, cutting out fraction circles to compare different unit fractions. We have been posing questions about unit fractions to support our maths reasoning.

Next step is finding fractions of amounts.

SCIENCE - ROCKS, FOSSILS AND SOILS

Our new science topic has caught the interest of lots of Doves, as we investigate the world of geology!

We have found out about rock classification, experimenting to find out absorbency, density, hardness and texture. We also learned about the three different ways rocks are created.

Next in science we will move on to how fossils are created.

SUMMER SING-SONG

We started our summer term preparing for a grand performance celebrating our recent learning. We had practiced some great songs with Miss Poole which we performed, and also shared what we have been doing in class. We explained about the rainforest and the ancient Mayan culture that lived there hundreds of years ago. We also shared our science learning about nutrition, and what we need to stay healthy.

It was lovely to see so many of our friends and family to watch our presentation. We are so proud of Dove class!
