Our first few days in Year 4

It has been lovely welcoming the children back to school and getting settled into life in Seagulls! We have spent our first few days getting to know our new classroom, learning our routines and finding out where everything belongs.

One of our highlights was sharing the beautiful picture book Mabel and the Mountain. We thought about Mabel’s determination and perseverance as she worked towards her goal, even when others told her she couldn’t do it.

We also had our first taste of our Ancient Egypt topic. We explored hieroglyphs, learnt how the Ancient Egyptians represented different sounds and had a go at writing our own names. Everyone then created their own cartouche which we have put on display in the classroom.

Elsewhere, we enjoyed our first whole-class game of Number Knockout and had our first Computing session, where we began our reading assessments ready to find our new Accelerated Reader ranges.

• RHE: Returning to Mabel and the Mountain and exploring Mabel’s feelings at different points in her climb

• PE: Our first netball lesson and our first swimming session at Splashpoint Leisure Centre

• Spanish: Our first Spanish lesson with Mrs Jinks
