The first few weeks in Chaffinch Class have been fantastic! We have spent time getting to know one another, settling into our new classroom environment, establishing our routines and discussing our Chaffinch Class Golden Rules.

We have also been exploring The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. Through this inspiring story, the children have discussed how the book links to our Bramber values of resilience and bravery, thinking carefully about what these qualities mean and how the character, Vashti, demonstrates them throughout the story. Inspired by the book, the children have shown resilience themselves by creating their own Dot poems and a variety of Dot-themed artwork. As part of this, we explored the question, "What can a dot be?" and the children came up with some wonderfully imaginative ideas. One child suggested, "A dot can be a monster's eye!" We are delighted by everything the children have achieved already.

This week, we have begun looking at Leaf Man. They have created their own Leaf People and started coming up with some fantastic adjectives and noun phrases in class. We are very proud of them!

In Maths, we have been focusing on what it means to be a good mathematician and discussing the skills and attitudes that help us learn. We will continue to refer back to these ideas throughout the year. We have also begun exploring groups of ten and investigating different ways to represent tens.

It has been great to see the children so enthusiastic about Science, grouping things into different categories: Alive, Dead or Never been alive. They moved around the classroom and explored outside to think of examples of these! Great scientific research and thinking.

 

It has also been wonderful to see the children's favourite books from home and listen to them share why they enjoy reading them.
