Learning in Chaffinch Class This Week
It has been another busy and exciting week in Chaffinch Class!
English
We began our new text, The Boy Who Brought the Snow. The children thought carefully about questions they would like to ask the boy and enjoyed brainstorming creative ideas about how the story could be changed.
Maths
We have been revising previous learning and have also started our new topic on length and height. The children have been measuring in centimetres and metres, discussing the difference between the two and when each unit is most appropriate. We explored our learning by measuring different objects around Blue Wing and outside to compare sizes.
Science
In Science, we have been learning about what plants need to grow. We revisited our investigation with three flower pots, where we removed one essential element from each, and discussed what happened. The children also learnt how to identify healthy and unhealthy plants.
History
We explored expeditions to the South Pole, focusing on Scott’s journey. The children discussed why these expeditions were so challenging and considered how they might be different today. They also enjoyed thinking about what they would pack for their own expedition!
DT
We have begun sewing our Jack Frost puppets, and the children are doing a fantastic job showing resilience and creativity.
RSHE
In RSHE, we discussed the differences between boys and girls and learnt the correct scientific names for different body parts in an age-appropriate way.
