WB 26.01.26

This week in Chaffinch Class

✍️ English

Chaffinch have gone from explorers to polar animal inventors as they created their own fictional Arctic animals. We’ve been mastering the possessive apostrophe to describe their features, and will soon be ready to share fascinating facts about the animals.

βœ–οΈ Maths

We’ve been building our confidence with multiplication by using number sentences to show our thinking. Great determination with this new skill, Chaffinch!

πŸ”¬ Science

We’ve had some great discussions about how humans change over time, both physically growing and by developing skills and habits. Chaffinch have loved comparing their own families to the stages of a human life cycle πŸ‘ΆπŸ‘§πŸ‘©

πŸ’ƒ PE

Inspired by a secret garden, we danced like busy bees waggling and finding food. The hall was buzzing with energy and we can’t wait to add more to our dances!🐝

✏️ Art

We looked closely at photos of polar bears and Arctic owls, spotting different lines and textures. The really magical part was tracing and printing to create stunning carbon paper mono prints 🐻‍β„οΈπŸ¦‰

β›ͺ RE

We compared the Bible and the Torah, and listened to a story that appears in both books. We had some thoughtful discussions about shared values and respectful listening.

🧊 Geography

We travelled to the Arctic and pictured the physical features that make the icy landscape so unique. From soaring glaciers to slippery snow ice, we explored the extreme environment and learnt a few facts about the features.

πŸ–₯️ Computing

Continuing being digital musicians, we used Chrome Music Lab to create musical patterns, experiment with notes, change tempo and transform our tunes. Chaffinch were incredibly enthusiastic about this lesson, and we look forward to continuing our compositions next week.

πŸ“š Reading

We finished reading The Snow Dragon by Abi Elphinstone and enjoyed comparing it to The Snow Dragon by Vivian French. We talked about the powerful messages of adventure-seeking and believing in miracles, and had a chance to share our opinions.
