Weekly Overviews

w.c 2nd February

This week we will be:

- Exploring commutativity and the rules of multiplication

- Practising more soundchecks in preparation for the MTC

- Writing the large intestine paragraph of our digestion story

- Storytelling through dance in PE

- Learning more about the functions of teeth and setting up an experiment

- Creating repeated patterns from our pattern tiles in art

- Celebrating storytelling through a special rap lesson and activities

- Meeting the Two-Faced Twins in a special assembly.

 

w.c. 19th January

This week we will be: 

- Writing the introduction and first main paragraph of our 'Amy gets Eaten' - inspired story.

- Learning about coordinates.

- Having our annual first-aid session. 

- Exploring the work of two pattern artists and creating our response page in our sketchbooks. 

- Thinking about how important sleep is to us in RHE. 

- Learning how to use the repeat function in programming tool - Turtle Academy. 

 

w.c. 12th December

This week we will be:

- Mapping out our narrative writing and researching and drafting the first paragraph.

- Understanding how divisibility rules can help with our times tables and learning what square numbers are.

- Choreographing carnival dances in PE.

- Looking at healthy choices and our bodies in RHE.

- Learning more about the digestive system through research and reading of non-fiction texts.

- Exploring pattern in different ways in art. 

 

w.c. 5th December

This week we will be:

- Learning and practising our 7 times table

- Revising speech punctuation and learning about reporting clauses

- Reading our new book - Amy Gets Eaten. 

- Playing with puncture pictures in our 'exploring pattern' art unit.

- Looking at changes in pitch in science. 

- Using commands in computing to move a turtle. 

 

w.c. 8th December

This week we will be:

- Writing our Bob Hunder biographies

- Learning what perimeter is in maths and calculating the perimeter of shapes. 

- Learning about the Nile Delta and looking at what the city of Alexandria is like. 

- Editing our podcasts in computing. 

- Making our moving picture cards in DT. 

- Wearing Christmas jumpers and designing our own on Christmas Jumper Day. 

 

w.c. 1st December

This week we will be:

- Learning the multiples of 9 in the 9 times tables and the many tricks to help us remember them 

- Beginning to draft the biography of Bob Hunter.

- Recording our podcasts in audacity. 

- Sharing moving picture books from home and designing our moving picture cards. 

- Recording some of the pros and cons of hte Aswan High Dam. 

- Learning the block and jab tackles in hockey and playing 4 v 4 games.  

 

w.c. 24th November

This week we will be:

- Continuing to link the 3 and 6 times tables using arrays. 

- Writing a factfile about a fictional explorer - Bob Hunter - for use in our biography writing. 

- Learning how the ear hears sound and playing some instruments. 

- Learning about the positive and negative impact the building of the Aswan Dam had for Egyptians. 

- Planning a podcast in small groups for recording next week. 

- Practising attacking and defending skills in hockey. 

 

w.c. 17th November

This week we will be:

- Learning about the 6 times tables and making links with the 3 times tables

- Writing paragraphs of a Howard Carter biography

- Practising dribbling in hockey

- Learning about the journey of the Nile from source to mouth

- Having a trip to Brighton Museum

- Reflecting on our trip to Brighton Museum

 

w.c. 10th November 2025

This week we will be:

- Learning how 1000 is composed of 10 x 100, 4 x 250, 5 x 200 and 2 x 500 and applying this in context. 

- Practising writing facts about Howard Carter in our own words for use in a biography. 

- Revising our 3 xtable knowledge in preparation for the 6 and 9 times tables. 

- Start our Year 4 spelling rules beginning with the prefix -mis, linked to the prefixes learned last year -un, -dis, and -in.

- Beginning our mechanisms DT unit, trying out some levers and linkages to make moving pictures. 

- Beginning our audio production unit in computing and using Audacity to record our voices. 

 

w.c. 4th November 2025

This week we will be:

- Finishing our learning about rounding and applying these skills in context

- Sharing our topic home learning and actively listening to our peers

- Starting our next writing unit - writing to entertain/inform - biography writing

- Making circuits and testing out different types of switches, made from cardboard, bulldog clips, paperclips and split pins

- Thinking critically about whether we can believe what we read online in our last computing session of this unit. 

- Continuing to read our class text - Secrets of a Sun-King

 

w.c. 20th October 2025

This week we will be:

- Finishing drafting, editing and publishing our Ancient Egyptian-inspired poetry

- Learning more about how to round numbers to the nearest 1000, 100 and 10

- Finding out about Ancient Egyptian daily life and society

- Learning about switches and reflecting on our learning about electricity in science

- Assessing our understanding of the grammar taught this half-term with a little quiz

- Having a small tournament between us, Downsbrook, Whytemead and Broadwater on TTRS!

 

w.c. 13th October 2025

This week we will be:

- Applying all of our English learning to drafting our own Ancient Egyptian-inspired poetry

- Comparing and ordering numbers in the 1000's and introducing rounding in maths

- Writing up our conductors and insulators science investigation

- Learning about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb

- Reflecting on our poetry comics and having a class gallery walk

- Continuing to revise the 3x table and spellings from the Year 2 word list. 

 

w.c. 6th October 2025

This week we will be:

- Starting to write Egyptian themed poetry using expanded noun phrases/prepositional phrases

- Recapping numbers to 1,000 in Maths

- Completing our poetry comics in Art

- Investigating what materials act as conductors and insulators of electricity in Science

- Learning about the very interesting process of mummification in history

- Finding out more about the internet and websites in computing

- Continuing to practise our 3xtables in TTRS and improving our heat maps!

 

w.c 29th September 2025

This week we will be:

- Applying our revision of column subtraction and addition in real-life problems and in context. 

- Revising subordinate clauses, subordinating conjunctions and complex sentences. 

- Considering what makes effective communication. 

- Continuing our own poetry comics in art. 

- Learning about conductors and insulators in our electricity unit. 

- Reading the myth of Osiris and Isis and creating a short comic. 

- Continuing to read our class text - Secrets of a Sun-King.

- Assessing our knowledge of the Year 3 and 4 spellings. 

 

w.c. 22nd September 2025

This week we will be:

- Revising column subtraction with no exchanges, 1 exchange and remembering what to do if there is a zero in any column.

- Revising compound sentences and coordinating conjunctions - FANBOYS.

- Learning about the Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses.

- Exploring poetry in art and choosing a poem for our Poetry Comic project.

- Understanding what makes a complete circuit in science.

- Starting to understand the Internet more, specifically routers, in Computing.

- Continuing to revise the Year 1 and 2 words that our whole class need to practise.

- Discussing long-term commitment, including marriage, in our RHE lessons.
