In Chaffinch Class This Week 🌟

What a busy and exciting week we have had in Chaffinch Class!

✏️ English

In English, the children have been writing some fantastic descriptive sentences about polar animals and the Arctic. We also enjoyed reading the imaginative poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright. This inspired the children to think creatively about what they might find inside their own magic boxes. We heard lots of wonderful ideas – from magical creatures to delicious treats!

➗ Maths

In maths, we have been learning all about money. The children have been busy identifying different coins and notes and practising how to make amounts using pounds and pence. They have shown great determination when selecting the correct coins to match a given amount.

🌱 Science

Our sunflower investigation continues! This week we carefully observed our plants and were very excited to see that some have begun to sprout shoots. We also explored the inside of a seed, discovering the food store and where the roots and stem begin to grow. To deepen our understanding, we set up an experiment to observe how seeds germinate and grow over time.

🧭 History

In history, we learned about two famous polar explorers: Roald Amundsen and Robert Falcon Scott. The children became history detectives as they gathered facts and compared the achievements of these brave explorers.

🎨 Design and Technology

The children began planning their exciting new project by creating design criteria ready to design and make their own puppets. We can’t wait to see their creative ideas come to life!

✡️ RE

In RE, the children learned about the Jewish festival of Purim and heard the story of Queen Esther, learning about courage and celebration.

📚 World Book Day Fun!

We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day on Wednesday. The children looked fantastic in their costumes and showed great enthusiasm for reading.

The day began with a brilliant staff performance of The Day the Crayons Quit, which had everyone laughing. The children also enjoyed our Mystery Reader session and took part in an exciting writing workshop with our published author, Mrs Jinx. It was a truly inspiring day for our young readers and writers!
