Week beg 2 Nov 2026

Back to school!

After our very fun and creepy Monster Ball, we all had a well-deserved rest in the half-term holiday. It’s been a short week as we had an Inset day on Monday, but we have managed to cram lots in!

In English this week, we began a new text – Lost in the Toy Museum – really kicking of our new history topic of Toys Through Time. We have been using the story to practice writing descriptions using adjectives and nouns together, and we have used pictures to order the story and write captions.

In maths we have started using the language of comparison – taller, shorter, heavier, lighter, bigger, smaller etc. We have also been learning about capacity, thinking about how much containers can hold.

In Music we have made a start on our special songs we will be singing in the Nativity.

In phonics we have been reading lots of alien words containing all the set 1 and 2 sounds we have already learned.

In DT we started learning about levers and sliders, in preparation for making a special Christmas card.

In RE we have been talking about the first Christmas.

In Computing, we started to learn how to use the laptops! What a week!

Next week:

• Phonics – ea and oi Set 3 sounds

• Writing – writing our own toy story

• Reading - Lost in the Toy Museum

• History – investigating toys from the past.

• RHE – Dangers in the home and in the environment

• Maths – comparing amounts

  • Computing
