WB 19.01.26
Hello! I'm Miss Chowdhury and I've loved getting to know and support Chaffinch class's learning over the last few weeks during my final student teacher placement. Here's what Chaffinch have been learning this week 🍎
✍️ English
Chaffinch class have turned into explorers! We’ve begun researching polar animals to prepare for writing our own fact files. The children have impressed us by sharing what they already know and dug deeper to discover new interesting facts 😮🔎 We've been sharpening our writing skills by learning how to use conjunctions to join ideas together 🧭
➗ Maths
We have been recognising and making equal groups. We have written repeated addition to represent our equal; groups. We have now moved on to using the multiplication symbol. We have been enjoying using this new skill.
🔬 Science
In science, we’ve been learning about how life cycles show the way animals grow, change and develop over time. We explored the idea that life cycles are continuous and repeating, helping us understand how new life continues 🥚🐧
💃 PE
The children practised and performed their Jack Frost dances, twirling and skating in pairs and casting snowy magic with their ice wands ☃️🪄 We’ve been learning how to mirror and match movements, with some solo movements so everyone's dances are as unique as snowflakes ❄️
✏️ Art
This week we took inspiration from Xgaoc'o X'are's monoprint artwork of 'Two Giraffe and Two Birds'. We appreciated and discussed the different marks the artist used, then made our own carbon monoprints of natural objects. We were excited by how the pressure of our drawings on the carbon paper transferred ink. The big reveal of our final sketches was really fascinating!
⛪ RE
In RE, the children shared their understanding of prayer and explored the Lord’s Prayer, discussing why Christians say it and what makes it such a special prayer 💭 We had a chance to listen to hymns and recognised that Christians pray in different ways, for example by thanking God before a meal or singing.
🖥️ Computing
Chaffinch class have been busy as digital musicians, experimenting with laptops and Chrome Music Lab’s Kandinsky feature to explore how digital music is used and share their tunes along the way 🎶
