WB 12.10.26

This week in Chaffinch Class, we have been doing some brilliant learning!

In English, we have been exploring poetry and reading a range of autumn-themed poems. We have focused on the poetic feature of repetition, discussing the effect it can have on the reader and how it influences the way a poem makes us feel. The children engaged in some thoughtful discussions and shared some excellent ideas.

To inspire our own poetry writing, we went on an autumn walk to explore nature through our senses. The children carefully observed what they could see, hear, smell and feel, helping them develop a rich bank of vocabulary ready for next week when they begin writing their own nature poems.

In Maths, we have been focusing on different ways to represent numbers. The children have been comparing and partitioning two-digit numbers to deepen their understanding of place value and how numbers are made. We also introduced bar models this week. The children worked incredibly hard and did a fantastic job using both pictorial and written methods to represent numbers in a variety of ways. We have been so impressed with the progress and enthusiasm shown by the Chaffinches.

In Geography, the children have been learning all about where we live. We explored the different countries of the United Kingdom before zooming in on Worthing. The children loved sharing their favourite places in our town and created some fantastic fact files showcasing their knowledge.

Over the past two weeks, the children have been working hard on their Autumn Drawing project. They developed their observation and mark-making skills before bringing these together in their final pieces. The children thought carefully about composition and experimented with media to create some beautiful artwork.

Well done, Chaffinches, for another wonderful week of learning!
