This Week in Kingfisher Class!
What a fantastic week of learning we have had in Kingfisher Class! From investigating water resistance to exploring the Moon and becoming budding authors, we have certainly been busy!
📚 English – Mystery and Imagination!
We are absolutely hooked on The Jamie Drake Equation by Christopher Edge! The story has really captured our imaginations, and we can't wait to find out what happens next. Inspired by the mystery and suspense in the book, we have begun planning our very own mystery stories. We have some exciting ideas, unexpected twists and intriguing characters in the making!
🔢 Maths – Making Connections!
This week, we have been putting our knowledge of tenths and hundredths to good use as we explored the relationship between centimetres and metres. We have been thinking carefully about 'what we already know' and how we can use this knowledge to tackle new challenges. Making connections in maths is so important, and Kingfisher Class have been doing a brilliant job!
🔬 Science – Making a Splash!
Our young scientists have been busy investigating water resistance! We carried out an experiment to explore how different factors can affect the speed at which an object travels through water. There were plenty of predictions, observations and scientific discussions as we put our ideas to the test!
🚀 History – One Giant Leap for Mankind!
This week, we travelled back in time to 1969 to learn about the incredible first Moon landing! We explored this historic moment and imagined what it must have been like to watch Neil Armstrong take those famous first steps.
We have now become budding news reporters, drafting scripts for our very own Moon landing news reports! Watch this space for some breaking news from Kingfisher Class!
🎨 Art – Maps with a Difference!
Our typography unit has taken a creative turn! We have been exploring how letters, words and maps can be used to tell stories about ourselves. We discovered that maps don't always have to show roads and places – they can represent our personalities, memories and experiences too!
We have been thinking creatively about how to combine typography and map-making to produce unique pieces of artwork that tell our own stories.
💻 RSHE – Staying Safe Online
This week, we have been having some really important conversations about online relationships and staying safe in the digital world. We explored how to recognise warning signs, why people online might not always be who they say they are, and what to do if something makes us feel uncomfortable or worried.
The children shared some thoughtful ideas and demonstrated a growing understanding of how to make safe and sensible choices online.
