WB 28.09.26
We have had a wonderful week in Chaffinch Class, and I have loved seeing so many children getting involved in National Poetry Day, creating their very own autumn-themed poems!
In English, the children have been planning and are now writing their own stories inspired by our topic book, Leaf Man. We have already seen some fantastic writing, with characters such as Acorn Boy and Leaf Dog appearing in creative adaptations of the story. The children have been using fabulous descriptive language, including ambitious adjectives and a variety of verbs to show how their characters move in the wind. Words such as floated, drifted and danced have helped bring their stories to life. We are incredibly proud of the writing they have produced so far!
In Maths, we have continued exploring multiples of ten and have been using a variety of objects to help us become more efficient counters. By grouping objects into bundles of ten, the children are beginning to count more quickly and accurately, while also identifying any extra ones. They have worked extremely hard and shown great perseverance throughout the week.
In Science, the Chaffinches enjoyed a minibeast hunt in our woodland area. Armed with magnifying glasses, we discovered a range of minibeasts including aphids, beetles, ladybirds, caterpillars and ants. We discussed how these creatures live in microhabitats and explored what makes these small environments suitable homes for different minibeasts.

Just a note to say that West Sussex Libraries have recently been helping us to reorganise our library area, which is now looking fantastic and beautifully organised. As we were waiting to introduce the children to the new systems and routines, they have not been changing their books recently.
From now on, children will have the opportunity to change their library books every Thursday. This will also be the day they can change their reading books.
We are working hard to encourage greater responsibility and independence, so the children will now be choosing their own reading books to take home. We hope this helps them develop confidence and ownership of their reading choices. However, if you have any concerns or would like to discuss your child's reading, please do not hesitate to speak to us at the door. We are always happy to help and support in any way we can.
