🌟🚀 Kingfisher Class Has Blast Off! 🚀🌟

What a fantastic start to the year we've had in Kingfisher Class! The children have settled in brilliantly and have already impressed us with their enthusiasm, curiosity and hard work. Here's a look at some of the exciting learning we've been enjoying over the past couple of weeks!

📚 English - Choose Kind!

We have been reading the wonderful book Wonder and the children have absolutely loved getting to know August and thinking about the challenges he faces. We explored how August might feel in different situations and discussed the importance of showing kindness to others.

Inspired by famous speeches, we watched clips of powerful speakers and discovered what makes a speech memorable. The children then wrote and delivered their own speeches about kindness. I was incredibly proud of every single child. Their speeches were thoughtful, inspiring and delivered with confidence.⭐

🔢 Maths - Terrific Tenths!

In Maths, we have started our learning on decimal fractions. We have been exploring tenths and representing them in lots of different ways, including number lines and place value charts.

The children have also been learning to add and subtract tenths, using their existing number knowledge to spot patterns and solve problems. Some brilliant mathematical thinking has been on display! 🧠✨

🌍 Science - The Force is Strong With Us!

This term we have begun our exciting topic on Forces. We investigated the effects of gravity on objects and explored whether heavier objects fall faster than lighter ones.

We were fascinated watching footage of astronauts walking on the Moon and loved learning about the famous feather and hammer experiment, which helped us understand how gravity works. There were lots of excellent scientific questions and discussions! 🌙🔭

🎨 Art - Rocketing Through Space!

Our classroom has been filled with colour and creativity! We have been studying the fantastic space artwork of Peter Thorpe and exploring how artists use texture, colour and design to create depth and movement.

Inspired by his work, we created our own rocket paintings, which look absolutely out of this world! 🚀🌌

We have also started our Typography topic, experimenting with different shapes, styles and designs to create exciting and imaginative letters.

💻 RSHE - Staying Safe Online

In RSHE, we have been discussing friendships and relationships in the online world. We thought carefully about the differences between online friends and friends we know in real life, and considered what information it is safe and appropriate to share.

The children showed great maturity during these discussions and demonstrated a strong understanding of how to keep themselves safe online. 👍

🌟 Kingfisher Class Superstars!

I have been so impressed with the children over these first few weeks. They have shown kindness, resilience, creativity and a real enthusiasm for learning. We can't wait to share more of our adventures with you as the term continues!

We will be starting our brand-new class text, The Jamie Drake Equation by Christopher Edge. 🚀🌌 This exciting story combines space, mystery and adventure, and we can't wait to discover what happens to Jamie as he explores the possibility of life beyond Earth!

🔢 Maths - Mastering Decimals!
We will continue our learning on decimal numbers by:

• Adding and subtracting decimal numbers 🧮
• Rounding decimal numbers with tenths to the nearest whole number 🎯
• Using our place value knowledge to solve a range of challenges and problems.

🔬 Science - Feeling the Friction!
Our Forces topic continues as we investigate friction. We will explore how different surfaces affect movement and discover why some objects slide easily while others slow down. Expect some exciting investigations! 🏃‍♂️⚽

🎨 Art - Terrific Typography!
We will continue developing our typography skills, experimenting with different letter shapes, styles and designs to create bold and eye-catching artwork. 🖌️✨

⚙️ DT - Levers and Gears
This week we will begin researching levers and gears, finding out how they work and where we might find them in everyday life. We'll become engineers and inventors as we prepare for our own designs! 🔧🚲

💻 RSHE - Online Friendships
We will be exploring online friendships and discussing some of the challenges they can bring. The children will think about how their actions online can affect others and learn strategies for building positive and safe relationships in the digital world. 🤝🌐

🔭 History - A Window to the Stars!
We will learn about the invention and development of the telescope and discover how this incredible invention transformed our understanding of space. We'll find out how astronomers used telescopes to uncover new mysteries of the universe and change the way people viewed the world around them. 🌍⭐
