This Week in Chaffinch Class 🐦✨

What a busy and brilliant week we’ve had in Chaffinch Class! The children have been working hard, having fun and showing off their super learning skills.

English ✏️🔥
In English, we became fire report experts! We explored the features of a fire report and then wrote our own. The children showed off some amazing Year 2 writing, using great vocabulary and clear sentences – we were very impressed!

Maths ➗🍰
In Maths, we’ve been getting to grips with fractions. The children can now spot and find halves, quarters and thirds, and they’ve been doing a fantastic job explaining their thinking.

Science 🔬💧
Our scientists got busy this week as we carried out an investigation to find out which material absorbs water best. We talked about fair testing, made predictions and then tested different materials. There was lots of excitement as we waited to see the results!

History 🏰🚒
In History, we travelled back to 1666 to compare the fire service then and now. We learned that the lack of a proper fire service was one reason the Great Fire of London spread so quickly. The children also loved learning about all the amazing equipment firefighters use today to keep us safe.

Art 🎨🏙️
In Art, we explored the colourful and unusual work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser. We studied one of his designs and then had a go at sketching our own imaginative, eye‑catching creations.

Computing 🤖➡️
In Computing, we continued learning about algorithms. The children used them to programme Bee‑Bots and had lots of fun predicting where they would end up. There was some great problem‑solving and teamwork on display!

PE 🏃‍♂️💪
In PE, we’ve started our athletics unit. This week we focused on jumping for distance, practising our technique and trying to beat our personal bests.

We’ve got another exciting week of learning coming up in Chaffinch Class!

English ✏️🔥
We will continue working on our fire reports, thinking carefully about features such as facts, clear sentences and good vocabulary to make our writing even better.

Maths ➗🍰
In Maths, we’ll be carrying on with fractions, building confidence in finding and recognising halves, quarters and thirds.

Science 🔬💧
Our scientists will be evaluating our absorption investigation. We’ll be talking about what worked well, what we found out and whether our predictions were correct.

History 🏰🧳
In History, we’ll be learning about how it would feel to have to leave your home during the Great Fire of London in 1666, what it would have been like to live in tents and fields and comparing this to refugees today, helping us understand similarities and differences.

Computing 🤖➡️
In Computing, we’ll continue exploring algorithms and using them to give clear instructions.

PE 🏃‍♀️⬆️
In PE, we’ll stay focused on athletics, with a new challenge of jumping for height, working on our take‑off and landing techniques.
