WB 02.02.26

This week has been all about animals in Chaffinch class!

✍️ English

We’ve thought about all the English skills we’ve been practising this half-term so we can write up fascinating facts in an entertaining and informative way. Well done for working for hard on this, Chaffinch.

✖️ Maths

We’ve been creating and grouping arrays to practise our multiplication skills, and started grouping amounts to explore division.

🔬 Science

Chaffinch have been transported to a desert island and thought about what bare necessities we would request a boat bring to us. We’ve discussed that all animals need food, clean drinking water, air and shelter to survive. We’ve also realised that thankfully many things, like our families and beds, make life so much easier. It’s rough on the island but thank goodness our pets are in safe hands, we’ll look after them! 💦🍌💨🏕️

💃 PE

Chaffinch have been enjoying the secret garden theme as they’ve turned into garden animals and soared like birds, wiggled like worms, and scurried like spiders through the hall. We’ve realised we can make our performances more clear by changing the dynamics of our dances, for example by moving gently or quickly 🕷️

✏️ Art

The magic continued as we put everything we’ve learned about mono printing together this week by sketching polar animals from photos. The detail is remarkable and it’ll be a pleasure to display them in our class so we can all appreciate the masterpieces.

⛪ RE

We’ve learned about a Jewish festival called Purim and discovered how Jewish people celebrate it. It was exciting to find out about the story of Esther and we had a moment to reflect on who our own heroes we’d like to celebrate are.

🧊 Geography

We now know what animals live in the Arctic circle and what’s so special about their bodies to help them live in the icy climate 🦭

🖥️ Computing

As if we couldn’t get enough on animals! Chaffinch have been fantastically passionate in our digital musicians unit; this week we created rhythms that reminds us of various animals. It was lovely to hear some examples and guess the animal inspiration.

✨✨✨

📚 Storytelling week

The theme for National Storytelling Week 2026 was Soundtrack your Story so Chaffinch had the opportunity to join a live workshop with the National Literacy Trust. They were introduced to the concept of building stories through sound and discovered the power of confidence and dreams, inspired by Annemarie Anang’s ‘I Am Nefertiti’. The class created a poem together that recognised their positive qualities, talents and roles they play in life. We collaboratively shared our poems with loud and proud voices, and ended together affirming that ‘we are Chaffinch’!

🎭 Two Faced Twins

Local artists Gemma and Stella visited us in a school-wide assembly. Chaffinch were entranced by their artwork of familiar buildings in our locality, such as the Dome Cinema and Bluebird Café. It was great to see their passion and the inspiration led us to colour some beautiful linework of the Worthing Pier in our favourite shades.
