A dot can be a…
The children are beginning to settle in well to Chaffinch class. In our first two weeks we read the book ‘The Dot’ by Peter H Reynolds. This booked linked to many of our Bramber values including being resilient and being brave and making discoveries. Children have been using their imaginations to create some fantastic art for our dot project.
Value of the week.
This week we have been focusing on being respectful and responsible. We have been encouraging the children to take responsibility for their belongings and equipment in the classroom, tucking in chairs, putting equipment away and taking responsibility for their learning.
Stunning start
This week we enjoyed the beginning of our topic ‘Where my wellies take me’ for our stunning start we went on a nature hunt around the school grounds and collected items we found. We used these items to create a leaf person.
English
In English we have begun our first text of the topic Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. We have been exploring nouns and adjectives. We went on a noun hunt around Blue. We then collected some beautiful autumn leaves from outside and used them to explore adjectives. The children did a fantastic job of coming up with adjective to describe the autumn leaves.
Maths
In maths we are working on place value. We have been looking at two-digit numbers. We have been completing activities to show we can recognise numbers to 100. We have also begun partitioning tow-digit numbers. Children have been partitioning into tens and ones and also finding alternative ways to partition a number and write a number sentence.
Geography
In geography this week we began our topic of ‘where I live’ We thought about all the different ways we could answer the question where do I live? We then learned the seven continents and labelled them on a world map
RE
In RE this week children began their Harvest topic. They identified different fruits and vegetables and learned what it means to ‘harvest’ creating their own harvest basket full of fruit and vegetables.
