The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum sets standards for learning, development, and care for children from birth to five years old in England. It is guided by seven key areas of learning and development, split into three prime areas and four specific areas, supported by non-statutory guidance like Development Matters which is what we use to support our curriculum at Bramber Primary School.

The Three Prime Areas
Communication and Language: Listening, attention, understanding, and speaking. Focuses on back-and-forth interactions and rich vocabulary.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED): Self-regulation, managing self, and building relationships. Helps children form positive bonds and understand feelings.
Physical Development: Gross motor skills (running, jumping, balancing) and fine motor skills (using pencils, handling small objects).

The Four Specific Areas
Literacy: Comprehension, word reading, and writing simple sentences.
Mathematics: Number sense, counting, and exploring patterns, shape, space, and measure.
Understanding the World: Making sense of physical environments, communities, past and present, and the natural world.
Expressive Arts and Design: Exploring and playing with media, materials, music, art, role play, and imagination.
